Brittney King Jefferson Fortner HUM-115 1 February 2016 Pros on Slavery Reparations Are we as the ancestors of slavery entitled to reparation from the businesses that promoted slave trade and or the government? The debates of slavery reparations has been a long drawn out tradition about what should happen but, in the eyes of the ancestors of African Americans they believe they are entitled reparations. I think as for slavery reparations the ancestors of African Americans deserve an apology for the struggle they had to endure all those years. They also for that matter deserve to receive some compensation for the years of free labor. The reparation from the government could also be a sign of the U.S. finally showing equality to the new generation of black Americans. An apology for the slave’s ancestors is appropriate because of the pain and emotional beatings they went through. â€Å"While the U.S. government has not (yet) issued a formal apology for allowing slavery prior to the Civil War, two U.S. presidents have come increasingly close to it† (Craemer). If an apology would be given it would most likely stop all the racism from going around till this day still in the U.S. Even though, it is said that racism is dead it really is not. â€Å"A sincere apology by the duly elected representative of a people can mark an important first step in the process of reparation leading to national reconciliation, forgiveness, and healing† (Henry).
